Lois Hobbs

A Senior Consultant with Focus on Results, Lois was most recently superintendent of the Indian River School District in Delaware. During her tenure in this district, Ms. Hobbs guided the school system, improving student achievement in all of the schools under her supervision. She was successful in closing the achievement gap in all of these schools, and five of her schools were identified Blue Ribbon Schools as part of the No Child Left Behind initiative.

Ms. Hobbs began her career in 1966 as a teacher in the Prince George's County, Maryland public school system. She became an administrator in 1970 and spent the next 14 years as curriculum specialist and instructional supervisor for the district. Ms. Hobbs then returned to the building level, serving as principal of three of Prince George's County schools from 1984-1991. Her unique skills in administrative leadership led to the success of an elementary school that had previously been identified as having a low-achieving population. As the principal, she designed and developed the curriculum, both academic and arts, for a Magnet School, K-8 in Prince George's County which became a model for many other school districts nationwide.

Ms. Hobbs was invited to be principal leader for the summer institute at Harvard University. She has taught classes at the college level and presented in-service training programs at both the local and national level.

Her honors include the Washington Post Distinguished Education Leadership Award, the Prince George's County Chamber of Commerce Outstanding School Administrator Award, the Prince George's County Outstanding Educator Award and a 1991 Maryland Arts Alliance for Arts in Education Award. She currently resides at Fenwick Island, Delaware, where she continues to work toward improving teaching and quality education for students, through her efforts with the Delaware Academy for School Leadership, and the Rodel Foundation.
